Present there were Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, president of the People's Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, and other party and state senior officials of China.

The round-table talks were presided over by Xu Caihou, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the CPC and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the CPC, vice-president of China and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the CPC, made a speech on behalf of the C.C., the CPC, the State Council and the Central Military Commission.

Referring to the fact that the 60th anniversary of the entry of the CPV into the Korean front is now being grandly commemorated, he said:

The heroic servicepersons of the CPV waged life-or-death bloody battles in the same trench with the army and people of the DPRK under the uplifted banner of justice for defending peace from aggression, thus achieving a great victory in the war resisting the U.S. and aiding Korea.

This was a great victory won in defending the world peace and achieving human progress.

The heroic feats performed by the fallen fighters who kept azaleas in full bloom on the soil of Korea at the cost of their blood will always go down in history. It is six decades since then but the Chinese people still remember the great militant friendship sealed in blood by the armies and peoples of the two countries and touching stories about the DPRK government and people's care, love and sincere help to the CPV.

The war resisting the U.S. and aiding Korea was the first large-scale international limited war after the end of World War II and there was striking disparity in military equipment between the two warring parties but the CPV, shoulder to shoulder with the Korean People's Army, achieved steady shining victories.

Through arduous yet preeminent battles, the CPV and the KPA dealt a heavy blow at the imperialist aggressors, compelling the enemies to sign the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953.

The great war resisting the U.S. and aiding Korea was a war of justice for defending peace from aggression.

The source of strength of the CPV and the factor of its victory lay in the justice of the above-said war.

All the great victories achieved by the CPV on the Korean front would be unthinkable without the positive support of the people of different nationalities throughout China.

It was thanks to their positive support and encouragement that the servicepersons of the CPV could overcome all the difficulties during the war with resentment against the enemies and beat back the formidable enemies, finally winning a victory in the war.

More than 50 years have passed since the ceasefire in the above-said war, but the wounds and pain inflicted by this hard-fought war to people will never be healed and their memory of it will never fade away no matter how much water may flow under the bridge.

The Korean Peninsula is linked with China by the same mountain and rivers and defending peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia is linked with the overall situation of the struggle for the peace and stability of the world.

Consistent are the basic stand and political approach of China towards this issue.
