Ryanggang Province Undergoes Great Change

Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) -- Ryanggang Province, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, where Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of revolution, is standing, has taken on a new look through this year. Samjiyon County, which boasts of undying revolutionary feats of President Kim Il Sung, has been facelifted to serve as a centre of education in revolutionary traditions and a recreation centre in a better way. The province's capital city of Hyesan, the seat of Taehongdan County, known as a socialist fairyland, and other residential quarters have renewed their appearance. Production has upsurged in the Hyesan Youth Mine, Sinpha Youth Mine and other mines in the province, while the Hyesan Steel Factory has boosted the output after establishing a Juche-based steel production system fueled by locally available raw materials. Some minor hydraulic power stations have been built to generate more electricity for industrial establishments and residential quarters. After the Chongbong Combined Foodstuff Factory was built in the beginning of the year to produce various kinds of footstuffs with edible herbs, wild fruits and other materials available in the province, many other up-to-date foodstuff factories have appeared in the province. Paekam County, including the Tokpho area, has turned into a large-scale potato producer and such stockbreeding bases as the Paeksan Pig Farm in Taehongdan County are in good condition, paving the way for setting up a ring-shaped cyclic production system. A large deposit of high-grade minerals has been discovered by the provincial prospecting management bureau, and the construction of Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station is drawing to an end. |
