North Phyongan Province has directed big efforts to creating herb mountainous areas and cultivating medical plants.

The Unsan County Koryo Medicine Factory increased over 400 more hectares of areas under herb cultivation by concentrating efforts. It also created big profitable herb sites, including 200 odd hectares of hawthorn forest and 100 hectares of aronia melanocarpa forest.

The Jongju City Herb Management Agency, too, grows Schizandra chinensis, Amur cork, honey locust and other medical plants on a wide scale.

Herb cultivation has been vigorously conducted in South Hamgyong Province where herb-producing areas were created everywhere.

The Kumya County Herb Management Agency realigned at least 170 hectares of wild herb areas to plant many trees of high medicinal value.

The Pukchong County Herb Management Agency worked out a plan for creating herb mountainous areas in a realistic manner and expanded the areas to over 140 hectares.
