Conversion of West Sea into Sea of Peace Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 25 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea held a candlelight rally before the Posin Pavilion in Seoul on Dec. 20 demanding the conversion of the West Sea of Korea into a sea of peace. The organizations include the Solidarity for Progress, the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and the Solidarity of Youth.

The speakers said that the recent shelling staged by the military authorities were, in fact, provocative acts to spark off an all-out war.

We can no longer remain a passive onlooker to the escalating tension in the West Sea of Korea, they said. They called for setting up a special zone of peace and cooperation in the West Sea as early as possible as had been agreed upon in the October 4 declaration.

They demanded the authorities stop the reckless war moves and opt for peace.
