Pyongyang, January 17 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has a good prospect for increasing grain production and rapidly developing stock-breeding, pomiculture, fish breeding, etc. This is the fruition of the dynamic drive which has been under way to boost agriculture under the grand plan of the Workers' Party of Korea since the outset of the new century. Land realignment has made rapid progress in the country. North Phyongan Province realigned more than 53,000 hectares of land, South Hwanghae Province at least 100,000 hectares and South Phyongan Province and Pyongyang City over 94,400 hectares. Hundreds of thousands of hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields have been realigned in various parts of the country as befitting the land of socialist Korea. The projects led to obtaining a large area of new cropland. Taegyedo Tideland has been reclaimed to bring a large area under plough in North Phyongan Province. Hundreds of hectares of Punjiman Tideland were successfully reclaimed in Ongjin County, South Hwanghae Province. Kaechon-Lake Thaesong, Paekma-Cholsan and Mirubol gravity-fed waterway projects were completed to supply a sufficient amount of irrigation water to districts of Pyongyang and Nampho Cities and dozens of cities, counties and districts of South and North Phyongan Provinces and North Hwanghae Province. A signal turn has been effected in seed selection and advanced agro-technique and farming methods have been introduced to put agriculture on a modern and scientific basis. Good examples were set in double cropping, bean cultivation, etc. Fresh successes in potato farming were reported from cities and counties of Ryanggang Province and villages in alpine areas of Jagang and South and North Hamgyong Provinces. The Kosan Fruit Farm is turning into the nation's leading fruit producer in the wake of the appearance of the Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm as a model in fruit farming. There appeared in various parts of the country hosts of modern stock-breeding and fish-breeding bases. Advanced methods for producing meat and fish have been applied on the basis of latest science and technology. The Namhung Youth Chemical Complex succeeded in building a large-scale anthracite gasification process to mass-produce fertilizers by use of raw materials found in abundance in the country while the gasification process project is now progressing at a final phase at the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex. Agricultural workers in the DPRK are now busy making good preparations for the farming this year, while consolidating the existing foundation, in hearty response to the joint New Year editorial which set the agricultural field as the lifeline for settling the issue of people's living. |
