The historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration for implementing it are supported by all Koreans.

They helped the north and the south convert the relations of distrust and confrontation into those of "By our nation itself" based on reconciliation and unity and usher in a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity.

Witnessing progress made under the banner of the inter-Korean declarations all Koreans at home and abroad renewed the faith that the prosperity of a reunified country would surely come if they pool their efforts in the spirit of "By our nation itself."

The Korean people keenly realized the value of the inter-Korean declarations and the need for implementing them during the past three years, in particular. Their implementation would provide a realistic way for saving the Korean nation and holding successful dialogue and negotiations.

Only when the south Korean authorities repeal the confrontation policy and honestly implement the inter-Korean declarations is it possible to reap good fruit from dialogue and negotiations, mend the north-south relations and ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula.
