China, US Underscore Importance of Improvement in Inter-Korean Relations

| Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama at their talks held during the former's visit to the U.S. exchanged views on international and regional issues, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The China-U.S. joint statement issued on Jan. 19 emphasized the importance of an improvement in the north-south relations for the purpose of defusing the tension on the peninsula and called for inter-Korean dialogue. The statement also called for an early resumption of the six-party talks in order to settle matters in implementing the September 19 Joint Statement for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. |
