Born in a poor peasant family in Phyongwon County, North Phyongan Province, on July 1, 1928, he grew up to be an able official under the care of the Party and the leader after the liberation of the country.

He worked for years at important posts of the Party Central Committee and local party organizations.

He devoted himself to the development of the Party and revolutionary ranks and the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche, working as an instructor, section chief, vice department director and first vice department director of the Party Central Committee from 1962.

He worked as member of the WPK Central Committee and alternate member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the WPK from 2010.

He was awarded the Order of Kim Il Sung, the highest order of the DPRK, the Order of the National Flag 1st Class and many other state citations in recognition of his distinguished feats performed for the Party and the revolution, the country and the people.

An obituary was announced in the name of the WPK Central Committee on the same day.

The obituary said: Pak bravely fought against the U.S. imperialists' armed invasion with arms in hand for the victory during the period of the Fatherland Liberation War. He contributed to strengthening the party and powerfully encouraging the party members and other working people in the efforts to implement the party's line and policies in the period of socialist construction, holding various posts at the WPK Central Committee and local party organizations.

The Central Committee of the WPK announced a state funeral for him and formed the State Funeral Committee with Kim Kuk Thae as chairman and Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim, Ri Yong Ho and 43 others as members.

The State Funeral Committee said: His coffin is at the Sojang Club in Pothonggang District, Pyongyang.

It will receive mourners from 10:00 to 18:00 on Jan. 23 and the hearse will leave at 08:00 on Jan. 24.
