Progress in Bioengineering Field
Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- Progress has been made in researches into cutting-edge technology by the Bioengineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK recently. It includes development of various kinds of DNA samples for examining gene mutation and efficient anti-tumor immunotherapy, blood type conversion technology, technology of growing new crop strains and the technology of breeding animals by gene transfer.

Among them are high-yielding rice seed that ensures safe farming on tideland-turned paddy fields and vermin-resistant corn strain.

Progress has also been reported in researches into the strains of nutritious and virus-resistant potatoes amid satisfactory supply of potato virus diagnostic reagent to the countryside.

The Branch has intensified research into the grafted short apple tree by tissue culture, ensuring the supply to the Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm.

It also laid a solid scientific and technological foundation for the promotion of people's health and prophylactic treatment. It revealed the cause of various contagious diseases, developed medicines for intractable diseases and manufactured grow-fast medicines by genetic engineering method.
