Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- There is a play with gravel stones among the interesting colorful Korean folk games. It helps children improve their intelligence and promote their agility. Each of the two teams is made up of two girls or more. They play the game with gravel stones, each with about 1 or 1.5 centimeter in diameter, displaying hand skill. It has been called "gravel stone collecting", "gravel stone grasping", "gravel stone lifting" and "snatching" according to localities and historical backgrounds. There are more than a hundred methods of playing the game. But it can be classified mainly into two categories according to the number of those stones involved. The first category is the game played with four or five gravel stones and the other is the game to win as many gravel stones as possible with many ones. The first category of game is played as follows: Each player places four gravel stones before the participants one by one out of the five gravel stones before lifting the remaining one and grasping the one on the ground simultaneously. One can grasp one gravel stone, two gravel stones and three ones and all the remaining gravel stones before the fall of a gravel stone. A player lifts one gravel stone a bit while keeping four gravel stones in his hand and grasps it before its fall. The game is very diverse in its methods like those of hatching eggs and installing a rice-cooking pot. The second category of the game is played as follows: A circle of about 50 or 60 centimeters in diameter is drawn and gravel stones are distributed inside it before fixing the other line to start the game. The team which collects more gravel stones according to the defined rules wins the game. The play with gravel stones is the most popular among little girls as it can be played anywhere. |
