Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The revolutionary opera "The Sea of Blood" which was created in 1971 serves as a precious ideological and cultural heritage of the DPRK. It was adapted from drama "The Sea of Blood", an immortal classic masterpiece, which was created by President Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese armed struggle. It depicts a widow who embarked upon the road of revolution, following in the footsteps of her husband who was killed during the punitive operation of the Japanese imperialists, and her sons and daughter. Under the energetic guidance of General Secretary Kim Jong Il the revolutionary opera "The Sea of Blood" brought about a dramatic change in all aspects ranging from its contents and style to creating system and methods by doing away with the outdated patterns left for a long period in the field of opera at that time. The opera is revolutionary and socialist in contents and popular and national in style. All songs of the opera are made stanzaic and pangchang is introduced to it to make an objective depiction of the reality and situation in the given times, the inner world and behaviors of the characters. The opera involves dances as essential means of representation and gives a three-dimensional depiction of the living environment by means of a new style stage decor, a combination of lighting, stage-setting, etc. "The Flower Girl," "Tell O Forest" and other revolutionary operas were created one after another on the basis of "The Sea of Blood." |
