Koreans Enjoy Folk Holiday

Pyongyang, February 17 (KCNA) -- Today is the 15th of January in lunar calendar, folk holiday of the Koreans. After significantly celebrating the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, working people and school youth and children in the DPRK enjoyed this folk holiday. As unit of family or neighbors, they merrily spent this day, having boiled rice made of five grains, dishes cooked with nine dried herbs and other traditional dishes and playing folk amusement games such as Korean chess and Yut game. Catering centers across the country, including the Okryu Restaurant and the Chongryu Restaurant in Pyongyang and restaurants in the folk street of North Hwanghae Province, served such foods as noodle with pheasant meat, Pyongyang cold noodle, meal with five grains, sweet rice dish and mung-bean pancake. People were seen to enjoy the first full moon on Moran Hill and the bank of the River Taedong in Pyongyang, at the Inphung Pavilion in Kanggye of Jagang Province and other places across the country. |
