At the first meeting of its Executive Council, Secretary General Michelle Bachelet suggested a 100-day action program as an urgent item for cooperating with other UN organizations and increasing women coordinators at peace negotiations in disputed regions.

She also called on the international community to improve the women's status.

The new organization is a merger of four UN women's organizations. Its mission includes encouraging women to take part in social activities, putting an end to violence against women and enhancing women's role in dispute settlement.

China, Brazil, France and 38 other countries were elected members of the Executive Council in last November.
