Increasing Imbalance between Worldwide Production of Food and Its Demand
|

Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- There is a serious imbalance between the worldwide production of grain and its demand, increasing the possibility of a sharp rise in its price. At present analysts foresee that the grain production will decrease again this year in the wake of last year, boosting the demand for grain as compared with production. They predict that the worldwide decrease in grain production that has gone on in recent years will persist in the future, too. A long spell of bad weather hit major grain producing countries last year, adversely affecting the grain production. This led to a fall in the worldwide grain stock. The dwindling grain production and stock and the increasing demand for it result in the sky-rocketing of its price. Analysts predict that the wheat and maize prices will keep rising this year as what happened in the latter half of last year. The price of polished rice is expected to jump higher than other grain. Reality goes to prove that it is the only way for settling the food shortage for each country to develop its agriculture in the spirit of self-reliance and boost the grain production. Many countries are now taking positive steps to solve the food shortage by doing farming well by their own efforts under any circumstances. Cooperation and exchanges are getting brisk among countries in the agricultural field. |
