Chinese Premier Calls for Increased Grain Output

Beijing, February 21 (KCNA) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, at a State Council meeting on Feb. 10, called for sincerely implementing the policy of boosting grain output.

He said a stable development of food and agricultural production is a prerequisite to relatively rapid economic growth and harmony of society.

For the development of food and agricultural production, it is necessary to take preventive measures against drought damage, make spring plowing preparations in a unified way, direct efforts to irrigation construction and increase investment in agricultural sector, he said.
