Present at the meeting were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Ryong Hae and officials concerned, those of merits, exemplary youth league officials, and students.

The meeting discussed the tasks and ways for all young people to give full play to the heroic spirit and might of the young vanguard of Songun in the general offensive for materializing the desire of President Kim Il Sung to build a rich and powerful country true to the grandiose plan of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Kim Yong Nam, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, conveyed a congratulatory message sent by the C. C., WPK to the participants of the meeting.

The message said the young people have honorably defended the dignity of Songun Korea and Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses at the outpost of the anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. struggle and bolstered the defence capability of the country, turning it into an invulnerable fortress. They have rendered services for providing a firm guarantee for the building of a thriving nation with matchless armed forces, it added.

The young people have performed great labor feats in achieving the great success of the self-supporting economy and laying a foundation for making a leap forward in the efforts to realize the ideal to build a thriving nation as vanguard and shock brigade in the building of an economic power, the message noted, and went on:

The WPK is highly proud of having a large contingent of viable young people who play major roles in the national defence and socialist construction.

Ri Yong Chol, first secretary of the Central Committee of the youth league, in his report underscored the need for the young people who are most active in society to bring about great innovations and a big leap forward in the van of the general offensive and fully display once again the high spirit and mettle as the youth of Songun Korea in the dynamic struggle to put up the plate of a thriving nation on the gate of the country.

A congratulatory group of the Korean Children's Union of the meeting recited a congratulatory poem at the meeting.

An appeal to the youth across the country was adopted there.

The appeal noted that success in the efforts to open the gate to a thriving nation in 2012 hinges on the young people. It called upon all the young people to become young heroes dashing ahead of others to build a thriving nation.
