Rodong Sinmun Editorially Observes March First Popular Uprising

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- People from all walks of life at home and abroad should go united close, guided by the idea of by our nation itself irrespective of ideology and ism, system and religious belief and positively promote the peace on the Korean Peninsula and the cause of the country's reunification.

Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in an editorial dedicated to the 92nd anniversary of the March First Popular Uprising.

The popular uprising was nation-wide anti-Japanese patriotic resistance to regain the country usurped by the Japanese imperialists and establish the sovereignty of the nation, the editorial says, and goes on:

The Korean people, who were subjected to unbearable insult and maltreatment under the brutal military rule of the Japanese imperialists, rose in a nationwide anti-Japanese resistance on March 1, 1919 as a manifestation of their pent-up grudge and resentment at them.

The uprising recorded a brilliant chapter in the history of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea. It fully demonstrated the high spirit of independence, patriotic stamina and indomitable will of the Korean nation who offered stubborn resistance braving death against outside forces' domination and repressive rule.

It taught a bitter lesson that if the popular masses are to emerge victorious in their struggle to achieve the sovereignty of the nation and the independence of the country, they should be guided by an outstanding leader without fail, build strong forces representing the nation and wage an organized struggle according to a correct strategy and tactics.

The cherished desire of the participants of the popular uprising was translated into reality under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

The cause of national independence pioneered by the President is being successfully carried out by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il is the sun of the nation and the lodestar of the country's reunification as he glorified the DPRK as a power of Songun and dynamically advanced the cause of independent reunification, true to the behests of the President.

All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should intensify the patriotic struggle to foil the moves of outside forces for aggression and fully realize the sovereignty of the nation and thus accomplish the historic cause of the country's reunification as early as possible.
