KCNA on New US National Military Strategy Report

Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- The United States recently made public a new national military strategy report. The report said the U.S. strategic duty and interests would be further shifted to the Asia-Pacific region as the days go by. "We will work with the Japan 'Self-Defense Forces' to improve their out-of-area operational capabilities," it said. It is necessary to further increase the U.S. forces' influence in Southeast Asia and South Asia, the report added. In a word, this reflects part of the U.S. politico-military strategy aiming at a stronger position as an Asia-Pacific state in the new century. A rapid change is taking place in the economic and military equilibrium of the Asia-Pacific region in the new century. China, India and various other countries are appearing as emerging powers. This proves that the 21st century is becoming a century of Asia-Pacific. The U.S. is, therefore, citing "military threat" from the DPRK, China and other countries as a pretext for taking the initiative in the region. This is absolutely unreasonable. The U.S. military muscle retains an unchallenged edge as strategic forces made of strategic nuclear attack force, the missile defense system and steadily updated basic facilities. Its strategic nuclear force is capable of destroying the world several times and its MD has already formed limited networks of shields. The three services of the U.S. forces including long-range missile forces and strategic bombers are capable of conducting worldwide operations and have a dense network of bases of its military alliance in different parts of the world. U.S. F-22 stealth fighters of the fifth generation have been already deployed in the Asia-Pacific region and its aircraft carrier flotillas freely move in various parts of the world including the Korean Peninsula. Nevertheless, the U.S. claims that the defense capabilities of the DPRK and China are threatening others. This is like a guilty party filing the suit first. In this regard, the Chinese People's Daily on Feb. 21 refuted the U.S. claim, saying it is as illogical as to assert one may set fire to other's house, while the other should not be allowed to kindle a candle. The above-said strategy report is a dangerous document to overpower the potential rivals, maintain military domination and spark a new Cold War in the Asia-Pacific region. The U.S. military threat to the region will compel countries in the region to markedly increase their efforts to bolster up their self-reliant defense capabilities. |
