Nature-driven Irrigation System Proves Effective

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The gravity-fed irrigation system has yielded a great result in the DPRK. The first of its kind is the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong waterway built in October Juche 91 (2002). The channel fully waters the arable land in at least ten cities, counties and districts of South Phyongan Province, Pyongyang and Nampho. Later, the Paekma-Cholsan waterway and Miru plain waterway appeared to supply irrigation water to several counties of North Phyongan and North Hwanghae Provinces without consumption of electricity. A nature-driven irrigation system was also set up in a reclaimed tideland in Chongdan County, South Hwanghae Province. Many other areas also benefit from the irrigation system, which has been expanded throughout the country. |
