The statement denounced the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean warmongers for kicking off dangerous Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises, thus again escalating tension and the danger of a war on the Korean Peninsula to an extreme pitch.

The south Korean authorities started the joint military exercises in collusion with outside forces despite strong denunciation at home and abroad, bringing to light their criminal nature as a group of traitors spoiling the atmosphere of dialogue and bringing the danger of a nuclear war, the statement noted, and continued:

We unequivocally support the consistent stand of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government to improve the inter-Korean relations and promote the reconciliation and unity of the nation and bring about a turning phase of peace and reunification on the peninsula through dialogue and negotiations.

The U.S. and the south Korean authorities should face up to the trend of the times, behave with discretion and stop at once the joint military exercises for aggression.

We are convinced that the WPK and the Korean people will open a decisive phase of peace and reunification on the peninsula at any cost this year under the uplifted banner of the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

The Bangladeshi Institute for the Study of the Juche Idea also issued a similar statement on February 28.
