Joint Military Exercises Escalate Tension on Korea Peninsula
Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- Chinese experts on international affairs exposed the danger of the U.S.-south Korea and the U.S.-Japan joint military exercises.

According to the Feb. 28 issue of China's People's Daily, a vice-director of School for International Relations of Chinese People's University said that the military drills being staged amid the sensitive situation on the Korean Peninsula are not favorable for the stability in the region.

The U.S. seeks to combine those maneuvers into one and lay a foundation for staging triangular military exercises grouping the U.S., Japan and south Korea on its basis, he clarified.

A scholar of the Institute for U.S. Affairs of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations said that those simultaneous saber-rattling strains the situation between the DPRK and south Korea and deteriorates the security environment in Northeast Asia. Those exercises are, therefore, not favorable for peace and stability in East Asia, he added.

It has become part of the U.S. strategy to tighten security initiative in Northeast Asia through the U.S.-Japan-South Korea military exercises and the establishment of triangular military alliance, he said.
