Pyongyang March 5 (KCNA) -- The State General Bureau of Tourism of the DPRK is a governmental organ in charge of the nation's tourism.

The general bureau conducts such activities as tourist planning, survey, development, information and services.

It includes the International Travel Company of the DPRK, International Youth Travel Company, Korean International Sports Travel Company and the Tourism Information Company, and has branch offices in China and other countries.

It also has Mt. Paektu, Mt. Myohyang, Mt. Chilbo and Rason tourist agencies.

Founded on August 24, Juche 42 (1953), it is situated in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang.

Kim To Jun, director of the general bureau, told KCNA that it plans to invite many foreigners to tour the DPRK this year during cultural and sports events to be held in Pyongyang.

The DPRK joined the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in September 1987 and the Pacific-Asia Tourism Association (PATA) in April 1996.
