Silver Craftwork "Mother"
Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- The silver craftwork "Mother" is a gift sent to leader Kim Jong Il by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in August Juche 86 (1997).

The craftwork portrays a mother on a chair, embracing and caressing her baby, a depiction that a bright future is unthinkable for the baby without the mother's bosom.

The craftwork "Mother" placed on a rectangular prop symbolizes UNICEF.

Deeply moved by Kim Jong Il holding the children dearest and sparing nothing for them, the UNICEF prepared the gift.

The Executive Director of UNICEF, when visiting Korea, asked an official concerned to convey the gift to the DPRK leader.

The UNICEF chief told the official that in Korea the state is wholly responsible for the upbringing, protection and education of children in line with the "Theses on Socialist Education" and the Law on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children. He then said the Korean children are the happiest in the world.
