The song "Yeppuni" about a girl nurse who dashed to an enemy tank with a grenade in her hand during the Fatherland Liberation War is popular among the people.

The women who devoted their lives to the country in both the front and rear during the war are all called Yeppuni.

Many women have become Yeppunis in the era of the Songun (military-first) politics.

They include female soldiers, servicemen's wives and disabled soldiers' wives, as well as those distinguishing themselves in the effort for the building of a thriving nation.

Also included in them are famous educationists, scientific researchers, artistes and sportswomen.
