The mining sector contributes 16 percent to the GDP and represents 80 percent of Guinea's export revenue. The Guinean government is taking steps to promote the development of bauxite resources rich in the country while intensifying the state grasp and control over the development of mineral resources.

With bauxite reserves of 25 billion tons, Guinea has two-thirds of the world's total.
