It has taken substantial measures for this purpose in line with the modernization program.

Some time ago, the first deputy minister of Defense made public the program for military modernization by 2020. According to the program, Russia will spend 19 trillion Rbl to upgrade strategic nuclear forces, and naval and air force equipment.

Russia plans to put a latest-type submarine-launched ballistic missile "Bulava" in commission within the year to cope with the U.S. missile defense system.

It also plans to build eight nuclear submarines of next generation capable of loading "Bulava" and equip the army with some 600 new aircrafts and 1,000 helicopters till 2020.

Four Mistral-class helicopter carriers will be deployed in the Far East waters.

Russia also plans to manufacture a new ground-launched inter-continental ballistic missile based on liquid fuel till 2018.
