Efforts of Asian Countries to Protect Forest and Ecological Environment
Pyongyang, March 12 (KCNA) -- Asian countries are paying state attention to forestation and forest conservation.

A tree-planting campaign is being conducted as mass movements in Asian countries to increase the area of forests.

In China people from all walks of life actively take part in compulsory tree-planting. On Feb. 9 alone, more than 100,000 cadres and other people in Zhejiang Province went to the countryside to plant trees.

People in Myanmar cultivate a lot of saplings of various species while all of them are encouraged to take part in the tree-planting.

Bangladesh set the goal to plant 670 million saplings of different species in the fiscal year 2010-2011 and is pushing ahead with the work to attain it.

Indonesia plans to plant trees in 300,000-400,000 hectares of land this year. It increases the area of tree nurseries to massively raise saplings of various species.

Asian countries are energetically pushing forward the work to prevent desertification of land, regarding it as part of the work for protecting ecological environment.

The Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region of China planted a lot of trees in the 260 million wu of desert for the last decade.

Jordan is planting trees of various species in about 400 square kilometers of desert between its capital and Akaba, its southern port.

The Mongolian government started planting more than 950 million trees in about 1,000 km-long section from 2005 in a bid to build "green wall."
