Putting Production of Consumer Goods on Modern, Scientific Basis Called for

Pyongyang, March 15 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday editorially calls upon all the people to turn out in a dynamic drive of great surge to put the production of consumer goods and the light industry on a modern and scientific basis and thus bring about a decisive turn in improving the people's standard of living and building a thriving nation this year.

This is an urgent demand for building an economic power, the editorial says, and goes on:

We have build up solid material and technical foundations for putting the production of consumer goods on a modern and scientific basis.

The heavy industry including the metal and chemical industries has made rapid progress. A vigorous drive has also been made to put the machine-building industry on a CNC basis.

Only doing so would provide a way of producing more commodities favored by the people, immaculate by any standard and competitive on the world market, and consolidating the material and technical foundations of the light industry in a far-sighted way as required by the age of knowledge-based economy.

The Workers' Party of Korea is determined to put factories and enterprises in the field of the light industry on a modern basis, equip them with ultramodern facilities and carry on the production and management in conformity with scientific and technical demands in order to produce more quality light industrial goods.
