Pyongyang, March 15 (KCNA) -- Eighty-eight years has passed since President Kim Il Sung started a 1,000-ri (400 kilometers) journey for learning. At that time, rich men's children went abroad from Korea to study and become civilized. But the President, motivated by his father's remark that a Korean should experience the sufferings of the Korean nation and have a good knowledge of the Korean history and culture, left China for the homeland on March 16, Juche 12 (1923). He made a long journey alone from Badaogou in Changbai County, China, to Mangyongdae, his birthplace, witnessing the situation of the homeland occupied by the Japanese imperialists. What he saw in the homeland were people in fetters and nomads, and what he heard were cries for vengeance on the Japanese imperialists. After arriving in Mangyongdae, he started studying at Changdok School. During his school days, he was aware of the truth that it was possible only through fighting to drive the aggressors out of the country and liberate the nation. Indeed, the journey enabled the President to have a better understanding of Korea and its people. |
