Active as a member of the opera creation team, he wrote the words of "Let's Remain Faithful to the Leader through Generations", "Wherever We Go, We'll Never Forget Our Comradeship" and other famous songs.

In his lifetime, he wrote many songs of philosophical value reflecting the spirit of the times.

The song "A Soldier Hears Rice Ears Sway" written by him decades ago is viewed as one of the most popular songs in the country.

He also wrote "We Started from Scratch", "We Will Go Forward Confidently" and other masterpieces singing of the victorious Korean revolution.

The DPRK government awarded Kim Il Sung Order to him.

His remains lie in state at the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery.
