Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported recently that the Israeli government approved the construction of new houses in the West Bank after coordinating with the Palestinian National Authority. But the spokesman dismissed this as a fabrication.

"The Palestinian position in public and in secret is firm; settlement construction is unacceptable," he declared.
