US Position as World's "Only Superpower" Is Sinking: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Criticism of the U.S. position as the "only superpower" in the world is often heard from the international community. This fully reflects the reality today when the U.S. position as the "only superpower" in the world is sinking. Rodong Sinmun Saturday observes this in a bylined article. It goes on: The U.S. has behaved as the "only superpower" in the world since December 1989 when it declared the demise of the Cold War but its era as the world's "sole superpower" is drawing to a close. A proof of this is the fact that the U.S. is losing its privileged position in many aspects in the world political arena. The U.S. finds itself in a tighter corner in the UN arena. It was often driven into such position that it stood trial for its human rights abuses. The U.S. sphere of economic domination in the world is also sinking. The U.S. proportion in the world gross output value continues going down. It has a serious budget deficit and huge foreign debts due to its economic structural contradictions and imbalance and the steadily increasing military spending, etc. The U.S. can no longer pressurize others by dint of its dollars. Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and other regions countries are taking joint actions to introduce unitary currency on a regional scale to replace dollar. The U.S. military edge in the international arena is also getting weak. It finds a vivid expression in the U.S. "war against terrorism." U.S. troops are suffering political and moral setbacks in Iraq and Afghanistan. The U.S. is no longer world "leader", "only superpower" and "an international judge." The U.S. will find itself further isolated and repudiated worldwide unless it is awoken from its old dream of being the world's "only superpower". |
