To maintain the principle and standpoint of independence in settling the issue of national reunification is an essential requirement for winning a final victory in the cause of reunification as it is a crucial matter on which hinges the victory in the national reunification movement.

The idea of "By our nation itself," the keynote of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, reflects the Koreans' strong idea of self-determination to achieve national reunification by themselves.

The DPRK remains unchanged in its principled stand and will to warm the north-south relations and bring earlier the independent reunification by thoroughly applying the above-said idea.

This idea reflects the desire and wishes of the members of the Korean nation to achieve unity among themselves irrespective of ideology and system.

The Koreans who have lived as a homogenous nation throughout their long history can achieve solid unity if they rely on the national character and patriotism.

The north-south ties remain tense and acute and the war-like forces are getting more frantic than ever before in their moves to escalate confrontation and ignite a war in a bid to hold in check the advance of the June 15 era of reunification.

The Korean nation, however, can neither stop its advance nor make any detour in face of manifold ordeal and hardships. It can neither vacillate nor stop their struggle halfway in face of undisguised challenges and obstructions by the anti-reunification forces.

The national reunification movement is sure to triumph when the above-said idea is held fast to as a lifeline.
