Officials of Chongryon Encourage Koreans in Quake-Stricken Areas

Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- Officials of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on March 28 met and encouraged the chairmen of the Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Ibaraki Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon hit by the earthquake and the ensuing tsunami. Present there were Chief Vice-Chairman Ho Jong Man and Vice-Chairman Nam Sung U of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon, Pak Ku Ho, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently chairman of its Rights and Welfare Committee, and Kim Hong Chol, director of the General Affairs Department of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee. Ho Jong Man learned in detail about the damage done to compatriots, Korean schools and institutions under various prefectural headquarters and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families of the compatriots killed by the quake and the tsunami. He underlined the need to hold significant ceremonies of conveying the relief fund sent by leader Kim Jong Il not only to the quake-and tsunami-hit compatriots under Chongryon but to all other compatriots and encourage all the officials and compatriots to turn out in the drive to eradicate the aftermath of the disasters with this as a momentum. He stressed the need to confirm the whereabouts of compatriots, intensify the rescue activities and take concrete measures to protect students of Korean schools from quake damage and radioactive contamination and rehabilitate school buildings. He declared the emergency measure committee of Chongryon would enhance its function and role to conduct more dynamic activities for rescuing the Korean sufferers as a movement involving all organizations and compatriots. The chairmen of the headquarters of Chongryon in the affected areas vowed to intensify their activities to rescue the Korean sufferers, bring their living to normal as soon as possible and rehabilitate and reconstruct Korean schools and institutions under the guidance of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee. |
