The institute succeeded in taking eight kinds of single-celled algae from the sea and found out their specific features. It then devised methods of separating a thoroughbred from them and preserving it in a solid state.

It also developed a technology of culturing single-celled algae in an intensive way and raising economically useful marine animals.

The technology has already proved effective in some fishery stations.
