The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on April 8 announced that a small amount of contaminated water spilled on the floor was observed inside the buildings at three reactors No. 1, 2 and 3 at the Onagawa plant, which has suspended operations since the March 11 mega earthquake. A UN official expressed the view that it was middle level as compared with the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 and the Three Mile Island nuclear crisis in 1979.
