In his lifetime he always paid primary attention to military affairs.

Deeply aware that the sovereignty and dignity of the nation could be safeguarded only by dint of arms, he founded a guerilla army to launch a war against the Japanese imperialist aggressors and finally accomplished the historical cause of national liberation.

After the victory in the anti-Japanese war, he developed the Korean People's Revolutionary Army into regular armed forces and defeated the U.S. imperialists in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953).

His brilliant commanding art and unique tactics were fully demonstrated in the war.

After the ceasefire he successfully frustrated all the aggressive moves of the enemies, creditably defending the sovereignty of the country and strengthening the armed forces.
