The meeting reviewed the successes and experience achieved in the movement under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea over the past years. And it discussed the matter of developing the movement onto a new higher stage as required by the era of knowledge-based economy in which the drive of pushing back the frontiers of latest science and technology is under way.

Present there were Kim Yong Nam and Choe Yong Rim, officials of working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and officials concerned.

Kim Yong Nam, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the WPK and president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, delivered General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "On Developing the 'Lathe No. 26' Model Machine Movement onto a New Higher Stage in Keeping with the Requirement of the Great Drive for Building a Thriving Nation" at the meeting.

The work, published on March 30, Juche 100 (2011), deals with validity and vitality of the movement which has developed in depth under the leadership of the WPK. It also clarifies the orientation and ways for updating machines and equipment and production processes as required by the developing reality.

Hyon Sang Ju, chairman of the C.C., the Genera Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, said in his report that the work is a highly important guideline that the officials and working people should always hold fast to in their efforts to push ahead with CNC, modernization drive based on latest science and technology and increase the might of the Juche-oriented industry.

In spring of 1961 Kim Jong Il showed a shining example in management of equipment at the Pyongyang Textile Machine Factory, the reporter said, adding:

In the early 1980s, the WPK took a radical step to develop the model machine movement into the "Lathe No. 26" Model Machine Movement so that the vitality of this movement could be displayed to the full.

The movement has been conducted vigorously at industrial establishments, farms, etc. over the past years. In this period at least 10,000 workshops and more than 11,800 industrial establishments won the title of "Lathe No. 26" Model Unit or the title of Twice "Lathe No. 26" Model Unit. 890 workshops and over 1,600 factories, enterprises and farms obtained "Lathe No. 26" Model Prize and more than 100 workshop, factories and enterprises Twice "Lathe No. 26" Model Prize.

The reporter stressed the need for all officials and working people to intensify the movement in the extraordinary creative spirit and the strong spirit of self-reliance with high national pride and strong pluck that Korea does what it is determined to do and thus contribute to accelerating the victorious great drive for building a thriving nation.
