The festival has been an annual event since the first festival held on the occasion of the Day of the Sun in Juche 88 (1999). Profound reverence of all people for the peerlessly great man has been expressed during this period.

Diplomatic missions of various countries and international organizations here, foreign organizations for friendship and solidarity, foreigners, members of associations for supporting the dissemination of immortal flowers, Chinese residents in the DPRK and Koreans in Japan cultivated Kimilsungias with deep care and presented them to the festival and many foreign guests and overseas Koreans have visited the venue of the festival.

Nearly 20 000 potted Kimilsungias were displayed in the venue of the festival this year and hundreds of thousands of people visited the venue.
