Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Rajin Shipyard

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Rajin Shipyard. After being briefed on the shipyard before a huge map showing its panoramic view, he went round different processes to learn in detail about shipbuilding. He was greatly pleased to see the officials, workers and technicians of the shipyard devotedly working to build a rich and powerful country full of optimism and confidence in the future. He praised the workers of the shipyard for their feats, noting that remaining true to the idea and leadership of the party and the leader, they built a lot of ships in the past, bravely weathering all sorts of difficulties and hardships and fully displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude, and thus made a big contribution to the nation's development of the shipbuilding industry. Our country which could not properly build even a boat before the country's liberation set up a strong shipbuilding industry under the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung and it is successfully building various type modern ships, he said, adding that this is a striking demonstration of the great vitality of the self-supporting national economy. Saying that the shipyard has an important role to play for developing the nation's shipbuilding industry, he put forth tasks facing the shipyard. It is of very weighty importance for our country surrounded by seas on its three sides to massively build various type fishing boats as well as large cargo ships for developing the fishing industry, marine transport and foreign trade, he said, underlining the need for the shipyard to continue waging a dynamic struggle to build more cargo ships. He said that shipbuilding is an important index showing the country's level of industrial development, underlining the need for the shipyard to further develop shipbuilding technology and cut down the time for shipbuilding and steadily improve their quality by putting the processes on a scientific and modern basis. He called for actively introducing the latest science and technology and waging a dynamic mass technical innovation movement to comprehensively apply computer-aided designing of ships and CNC technology to hull processing and assembling. In order to boost the building of ships, it is necessary for the relevant domains to produce necessary materials, equipment and raw materials and supply them to the shipyard in good time, he said. He expressed great expectation and belief that the workers of the shipyard would creditably perform their honorable mission and duty and thus demonstrate the heroic spirit and mettle to win a sure victory in the drive for building a thriving nation. He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Kyong Hui, member of the Political Bureau and department director of the C.C., the WPK, Jang Song Thaek, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the WPK and vice-chairman of the NDC, Thae Jong Su, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Ju Kyu Chang, alternate member of the Political Bureau and department director of the C.C., the WPK, Ri Myong Su, minister of People's Security, and Hyon Chol Hae, department director of the NDC. |
