The April 19 Popular Uprising that broke out 51 years ago against the dictatorial forces of Syngman Rhee who pursued pro-U.S. sycophancy and national division created a new history of the movement for democracy, the statement said.

It accused the south Korean authorities of staging ceaseless anti-DPRK war rackets to escalate the military tension and pursuing corrupt policies based on deception and self-righteous practices, throwing the people into distress.

The progressive forces will actively turn out in the struggle to punish the present regime, carrying forward the fighting spirit of the participants in the uprising.

In the meantime, the Society of April Revolution of south Korea held a commemoration in Seoul on Monday on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the uprising.

The speakers said at the event that it is the most pressing task to punish the conservative forces and build a new democratic society.

They called on the progressive forces to get united and stage a vigorous struggle under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration to this end.
