Folk Play "Bow Dance"
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- "Bow Dance" is one of the folk dances associated with the Korean people's spirit of defending the country.

According to historical records, Koguryo, an ancient state (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) of Korea, encouraged archery competitions in holidays and appointed winners as military officers.

Seen in Koguryo tomb murals are archery competition and "Bow Dance".

When an archer hit the target, music began and the shot danced joyfully, cheered by the crowd. Then some of the spectators joined him in dance.

"Bow Dance" was derived from the spectacle.

Simple movements and merry and impressive rhythms characterize the dance.

Some movements of the dance are applied to modern dance pieces.
