GNP Defeated in By-election in S. Korea
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- The opposition parties of south Korea beat the "Grand National Party" in the by-election held on April 27.

The by-election aimed to fill the vacancies in the posts of lawmakers, provincial governors, district heads and county headmen was a hot contest as it may influence victory or defeat in the general elections next year.

The Democratic Party defeated the ruling party in the election of lawmaker for Pundang District No.2 of Songnam City, Kyonggi Province in which the GNP claimed never suffered a defeat.

The DP also beat the candidate from the ruling party in the election of the governor of south Korean Kangwon Province.

A candidate of the Democratic Labor Party who ran for the election to the "National Assembly" as the only candidate from the opposition camp won the election in Sunchon, South Jolla Province.

The GNP was defeated by the opposition parties in the election of district heads and county headmen in many other areas.

The election returns are a stern judgment meted out by the south Korean people to the present conservative ruling forces hell-bent on sycophancy towards the U.S., fascist dictatorship, anti-reunification acts and moves to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK.

It is reported that GNP representative An Sang Su and all other leading members resigned after owning the responsibility for the debacle in the election on April 28, creating a great confusion.
