Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- It is a clear truth and lesson taught by history that national unity leads to victory and split-up to ruin. When launching the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, President Kim Il Sung regarded the unity of the whole nation as an essential prerequisite to achieving the independence of the country. He raised the issue of an anti-Japanese national united front as an important way for the victory of the Korean revolution at the Kalun meeting held in Juche 19 (1930) and put forward a policy for forming a standing organization for the united front at the Nanhutou meeting in 1936. After drawing up the programme and rules of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF) and its inaugural declaration, he convened a meeting of military and political cadres of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) in Tongjiang, Fusong County, in May 1936. At the meeting he called for rallying the whole nation as a political force for national liberation and advancing KPRA units into border areas and the homeland to invigorate the anti-Japanese united front movement. He was elected ARF chairman at the meeting in conformity with the unanimous will of the Korean people. ARF was the first standing organization embracing all anti-Japanese patriotic forces in Korea. The underground organization put the anti-Japanese movement on a higher level and helped move up the day of national liberation based on the concerted effort of all the Korean people. The President's idea of great national unity, a treasure of the Korean nation, serves as solid foundations for the reunification of the country. |
