Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Akhakgwebom is a music book dating back to the medieval ages. It, compiled by Jangakwon (royal court music organ) in 1493, consists of nine volumes in three parts -- theory, practice and instrument -- and deals with theories and achievements concerning music and dance art. The theory part introduces basic musical principles like twelve tones and tunes based on them, and different artistic forms applied to court music and folk music. The practice part gives an illustrated explanation of difference between court music and folk music, their development, and performing forms and routines of instrumentals and dance music for royal ceremonies. It also contains many songs, music and dance pieces and instrumentals created in a long period from the days of Koryo kingdom. The instrument part gives an illustrated instruction of music instruments, costume, and stage setting and properties. The book also introduces music notation invented in Korea and music and dance heritages of other countries. |
