On May 4 the police and the Intelligence Service searched houses and office rooms of members of the organization in Seoul, Taejon, Kwangju and Jeju areas and even the office room of the Democratic Labor Party in Jeju City and arrested four persons, the statement said, and continued:

All of them who were subject to the suppression by the authorities conducted activities for social democracy, stable people's living, peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula, opposed to the dictatorial regime.

The statement accused the "government" and the "Grand National Party" of getting frantic with retaliatory suppression on the strength of the "National Security Law", far from accepting the people's mind-set reflected in the returns of the April 27 by-election.

It urged the "government" to bear in mind what end the successive dictatorial regimes met while dampening the ardent desire of the people for democracy, people's life and peaceful reunification.

The Solidarity for Democracy, People's Life, Peaceful Reunification and Sovereignty in a statement on the same day assailed the puppet group for recklessly suppressing members of the youth and students organization in a bid to tide over the ruling crisis.
