Four Kinds of Writing Materials
|
|
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Among writing materials created by the Korean people in ancient times are paper, cake ink, brush and inkstone. The papermaking technique was transferred by Koguryo Kingdom (277 BC-668) to neighboring countries and Korean paper was exported to even Arab nations in the period of Koryo Kingdom (early 10th century-late 14th century). Made of paper mulberry, Korean paper was very durable, white, soft and absorptive. The cake ink was also famous for fair quality. Brushes are seen in mural paintings of Koguryo tombs, an indication that brush has a long history in the country. Inkstone was made of blue stone and serpentine. The four kinds of writing materials are still in use in the country. |
