Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The 11th May 21 Architectural Festival and the 6th Symposium on Architectural Aesthetics were held in Pyongyang some time ago. Through the events the Korean people felt again a pride of having a master of architectural art. General Secretary Kim Jong Il published a celebrated work "Theory on Architectural Art" in May Juche 80 (1991), in which he gave all-round and profound answers to theoretical and practical questions arising in architectural development. The work explains the essence and characteristics of the Juche-based architecture and clarifies the principles and theories a working-class party should maintain in architectural development. The ideas and theories expounded in the work were created in the course of developing the Juche-based architecture. The DPRK launched a speed campaign in construction in the 1970s and built many edifices in the 1980s. Among those built in Pyongyang are the Tower of Juche Idea, Arch of Triumph, Grand People's Study House, Mansudae Art Theatre, and Rakwon, Changgwang, Munsu and Kwangbok streets. The validity and vitality of the work has been fully demonstrated in the Songun (military-first) era. In recent years, an e-library of Kim Il Sung University, Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory, Majon Hotel and State Theatre were successfully built as required by Kim Jong Il's great ideas of architecture. |
