Great Changes Take Place in Fruit Farms
|
|
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Ryongjon and Toksong fruit farms on the east coast of the DPRK have turned into large fruit producers as required by the new century. The officials and other members of the fruit farms created vast areas of orchards, putting them on a modern and scientific basis. The orchards of short apple trees of high-yielding species are now pervaded with sweet smell of white flowers. The above-said fruit farms succeeded in developing short fruit trees of new species suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the areas. They built their own bases for producing saplings on the basis of the newly-developed method of short fruit tree sapling production. As a result, productivity jumped ten times over the production of ordinary saplings. The fruit farms dug trench-style ditches with a total length of hundreds of kilometers and introduced a rotation production cycle of fruit farming and stock-breeding. A lot of quality organic fertilizer is now being produced from the combined stock-breeding bases and organic composite fertilizer production centers there. More than 100 tons per hectare have been applied to orchards to significantly increase the fertility of soil and steadily boost the fruit production. They also built their own vegetable agricultural chemical production centers depending on locally available raw and other materials, greatly contributing to the fruit production. There appeared on the farms roads with a total length of dozens of km that crisscross the orchards, cave-like fruit stores and air-conditioned fruit stores, changing their appearance beyond recognition. Modern houses and cultural and welfare establishments for farmers nestle at the foot of each hill. The farms look like a beautiful picture. |
