The Kwangju Popular Resistance in May, 1980 demonstrated before the world the indomitable spirit and will of the people to fight against subjugation and fascism, the statement said.

The patriotic people from all walks of life have waged a strenuous movement for independence against the U.S. and for national reunification under the banner of "By our nation itself" by inheriting the spirit of the resistance in those days, the statement said.

South Korea is in the grip of a serious crisis due to Lee Myung Bak's unpopular rule and confrontation hysteria, it noted, and continued:

The prevailing emergency situation calls for resolutely shattering the treacherous and anti-reunification policy of Lee Myung Bak and paving the way for independent reunification with the stamina and justice of the Kwangju Popular Resistance.

It called upon all the people to get united in the struggle to punish the treacherous regime without fail.
